Some
parishes have ACWs (Anglican Church Women) or BACs
(Brotherhood of Anglican Churchman). In those parishes
these groups often play a large role in the fundraising
aspect of the parish. In our church we do not separate
the men and the women. Instead we have a Parish
Activities Committee or PAC. The Goal of the PAC is to
oversee all parish fundraising and fellowship
activities. Every parishioner is a member. This is a
great aspect of community in this parish. Instead of
fostering groups which feed on old church models of
women’s groups raising monies, this concept encourages
the involvement of every member of the church of every
age. It is heartening at big events to see our children
and our seniors and our young parents all working
together.
This
group plans such events as the Spring Yard Sale, the
Fall bazaar, Pancake supper, special parish parties for
anniversaries and retirements. The Holy Rollers fall
under the PAC program as well as the Celebrity Steak BBQ
and Auction, and the Fireworks galas (2001-2006 - RIP).
The main event of the PAC’s year is the Annual Turkey
Dinner, held on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Each
year over 80 volunteers take part in serving over 500
dinners. It is always excellent and it is always a fun
time. |
