CHANCEL  GUILD

A Prayer

Loving Creator,  Thank you for calling me to serve as a member of the Chancel Guild in the parish of St. Mark's by-the-Lake.   Thank you for my brothers and sisters in Christ who call this their parish home.  Give me direction and patience to always call on you and to seek your will.  Remind me of your love as poured out in Christ.  As I serve in the Guild in your Church may I with my sister members reflect your light to those around us.  May we all be part of bringing about the Kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen

Marion Hinton, President

The Chancel Guild members at St. Mark’s are diligent in taking care of their duties in a quiet and joyful manner, preparing the Sanctuary for the Lord’s Supper – Holy Eucharist Service. This involves a team of 2 to 4, working from the Sacristy, by dusting furnishings, polishing silver and brass, ironing linens, setting out the elements (wine, water and bread) for the altar and arranging the flowers.

We presently have five teams which have the responsibility for preparation for all services for a two week period, every two and a half months. In addition to the regular Sunday services, members prepare for the Wednesday morning service and other occasional mid week services, baptisms, weddings, funerals and special services such as Ash Wednesday.

Several of the current members have served faithfully in this ministry for 30 to 40 years. We are very fortunate to work with and learn from them the special duties and history of our parish. It is a joyful peaceful time.

We take our guidance from Fr. Kevin. Our schedule follows the Church calendar for the liturgy and seasons. Members join together to decorate the Nave and Sanctuary for seasonal celebrations such as Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas and Easter.

Care to start something new in your life? You may have an unexplored talent to offer in this ministry. Is God calling you? If you are curious about joining the Chancel Guild, please speak to a member on duty (noted each week in the Church bulletin) or myself. I’d be pleased to show the areas and answer any questions.
