MINISTRY  OF  LAY  DELEGATES

Anglican parishes elect annually from one to four "Lay Delegates," depending on the size of the parish.

St. Mark's presently has three. They are members of the Parish Council and together with the Parish Clergy, they represent the parish at meetings of the Deanery Council (three per year) and at the Annual Synod of the Diocese. They are eligible to run for election to the Diocesan Council (four meetings per year)

as well as the opportunity to represent the Huron Diocese by being elected to Provincial and General Synod, both of which meet every three years.

The debates and decisions made by these councils and synods cover the range of program and financial matters under the canons and constitution of the Diocese of Huron and the Anglican Church of Canada.

At the time of a vacancy in clergy appointment in the parish, the lay delegates are members of the Selection Committee which interacts with the Bishop to obtain replacement clergy.
