Weddings at St. Mark's by-the-Lake

Congratulations! Now you have many things to think about and many plans to make for your wedding and future together. We have included on our website our Wedding Guidelines for those who are interested in getting married. This information will give you a good indication of what our expectations are for couples getting married at St. Mark’s by-the-Lake. We do not "rent" out the church building for weddings and non-Anglican clergy are not able to perform weddings at St. Mark’s by-the-Lake. In the meantime if you have a request for a clergy person who is not Anglican to take part in a wedding with our rector, that is not usually a problem.

Once you have taken the time to read the Wedding Guidelines thoroughly and you would like to receive a wedding application, or have further questions, please contact the church office via email, stmarkschurch.net or via phone at 519 735 4921.

Marriage Guidelines

We are delighted that you intend to make us a part of your wedding celebration! We want to help make your wedding a memorable and Christian occasion. As you begin your new life together, we want to do what we can to help you build the strongest possible marriage. Most importantly, we hope this will be a time in which you come to know Jesus Christ in a deeper way. With all this in mind, we have developed the following wedding guidelines to help in your thinking and planning. Please read carefully, then feel free to ask any questions you may have.

The Marriage Canon of the Anglican Church of Canada requires that 30 days notice on intention to marry must be given to the parish priest. Please consult with your priest before making any fixed arrangements.

We arrange weddings usually on Saturdays and will have a maximum of two on any given day. Dates are set on a first come- first serve basis. Other days are available by special request. We do not offer weddings on Sundays.

Marriage Preparation is also a requirement of the Anglican Church. Arrangements for this preparation can be made through the rector.

If either or both of you are divorced , application must be submitted to the rector.

Marriage License: A marriage license must be purchased from the province of Ontario. Banns may be read the three previous Sundays if you wish as an informal act….not as a legal document.

Music: Music for your wedding must be arranged in consultation with our Church Musician/Choir Director Ms. Andrea Morosin. She may be reached at 979 8875. The music must also be approved by the rector. You should consult with Andrea at least six weeks prior to your wedding date.

Unless otherwise stipulated a wedding at St. Mark’s will include a celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Confetti: Please note that the use of confetti or rice on church property is prohibited.

Children should be 4 years of age to be in a Wedding Party

Photography: Your photographer should consult with the rector before the ceremony about time and location of pictures. Also there will be no flash photography during the ceremony except during your recession and during the signing of the register. Videos are permitted but the videographer must remain stationary.

Flowers: Flowers must be arranged in consultation with the chancel guild of the parish. You should contact the flower secretary as soon as possible.  Call the church office at 735 4921.

There is a fee for marriage at St. Mark’s, however no marriage will be refused based on finance.
