OUR  SUNDAY  SCHOOL

Workshop Rotation Program

The Sunday School uses a Rotation Workshop Model to explore bible stories in fun and exciting ways! Following the lectionary, 7-8 stories or themes are chosen each year. The children rotate through various workshops, such as drama, art, games, baking, music, videos and science in order to learn and ‘live’ the stories! Because we take 4-6 weeks per story, the children are able to apply the theme to their own lives and hopefully understand it’s significance a little more.

While learning about the story of the Prodigal Son, for example, the children were able to understand how important it is to forgive and love unconditionally. Just as the son’s father reached out in forgiveness and rejoiced that his son was alive, God, our Father, does the same for us. We just need to be humble enough to seek forgiveness.

Parable of the Talents

In October/November, the children discovered gifts and talents that they have and how they can share them to do God’s work. In the story of the Parable of the Talents, they learned that God doesn’t want us to hide our talents, but to be brave enough to share it with others.  We also explored the Gifts of the Spirit and talked about how we can use those gifts in our daily lives, for the betterment of others.

Jonah and the Big Fish

We started off this year’s Church school exploring the story of Jonah and the whale! The children learned how important it is to trust God and to really listen to what He wants us to do.  Jonah was afraid to go to Nineveh and thought that running away would solve the problem! God continued to seek him and even sent a whale to ‘swallow’ him and give him some time to pray and think about what God wanted him to do.

In the end, Jonah, with God’s help, went to Nineveh to tell them to stop their wicked ways and to follow God’s ways.    The children really had fun exploring this story through drama, games and music. Christian even wrote a song about Jonah!

Taking Time to Pray

Heifer Project

Throughout the year, the children have made weekly donations towards the Heifer project. This year, they really wanted to buy a Water Buffalo! Did you know that water buffalos provide milk and are very strong to be able to help plow fields and be used to carry water? What an awesome animal!!

With a generous donation from the choir, the children are also able to purchase some chickens and bees!  These purchases will assist families in other countries by providing food and income for them and will provide schooling and supplies for children. Thanks so much for your help! A little change goes a long way!!
